I enjoyed this novel somewhat, and all of the creativity and inventiveness Fforde showed. It kept me on my toes ~ recalling history as we know it versus information written in the book. Each chapter starts with an invented quote which added another layer of humour to the story. The character names are ridiculous yet entertaining ~Jack Schitt, Victor Analogy, Millon De Floss. Thursday Next is a SpecOps detective in an alternate universe where everyone is obsessed with literature and the Crimean War has raged on for over a hundred years. This world is also supernatural, in that time travel is possible, as is travel into and out of books. Thursday works to capture Hades, who has a plot to gain fame and fortune, in part by kidnapping Jane Eyre for ransom. Along the way, she regains her true love Landen and sort of comes to terms with herself and her life.
