This narrative nonfiction moves fast, and it provides a great perspective of what was happening in the waters surrounding the Great War (1914-1918). Author provides a cast of characters and writes them in such a way throughout without spoilers—Let's presume everyone survives the wreck until they don't.

I enjoy Larson's books. This was no exception. I was entertained and feel better informed about the US entrance into WWI. Taking so much research and turning it into an interesting book is a skill. I am glad I read this. I was not fond of Larson's portrayal of Wilson, but I am sure it was closer to truth than my less informed, highly biased opinion.
