I think Lahiri's best form may be short stories. This novel dragged and the characters always remained quite distant. Perhaps I just don't understand the cultural underpinnings well enough to understand the motivations and actions of these characters, but none of them ever made much sense to me. I believe Lahiri is a talented writer, but I did not love this book the way that I hoped I would.

alright...so i was going to give this 3-stars, but it already feels like a book i will be thinking about for a while, and when that happens, i usually bump up my rating. so really, i am just saving a step. at the moment, i am having trouble deciding on my feelings for this novel. lahiri's writing is great. there was one moment in the story that actually made my eyes leak a little bit. but, my current mood is not great, kinda melancholy. and this book is pretty melancholy. so this is making for c
