I knew absolutely nothing about a secluded leper colony in the Hawaiian islands before reading this book. I didn't even know what the book was about. The book spans over 60 years of a lepers life named Rachel and her time being quarantined with other lepers on the island Moloka'i. Rachel's character was strong but still human with raw emotions. You can relate to her, especially if you are a parent. I loved the historical aspect of the book and how each year was given facts about that time specif
