Dr. Paul Farmer, the subject of this book, won a MacArthur Award, also called the "genius" award, which is fitting since he is a genius. He sees, very clearly, the impediments to health of the poor, finds, what in retrospect, are straightforward solutions and implements them in spite of seemingly huge obstacles. Dr. Farmer has also has gathered many very talented people in his circle including Tracy Kidder who has written this compelling and thought-provoking biography of Farmer. ...more
