I just finished The Emperor of All Maladies by …, and I find myself in tears. This book was amazing. The author, an Oncologist himself, takes the reader through the history of cancer, beginning with the Persian Queen Atossa, who had her slave cut off her tumor-ridden breast. From there, he touches on the varied conceptions and treatments of cancer through the centuries. He informs us of the barriers to cancer research in terms of funding, politics, and social perception.
