I took a moment to google and see photos of the bridge as it stands today. It's a beautiful bridge, as is the green water of the Drina river.

This was a challenging book for me. I had to look at it as interrelated short stories. All the stories happen around the bridge and some characters (and/or their descendants) appear in several stories. I also think that some is lost in translation. I would think this may be alliterative in Serb-Croat or a phrase in English may have had a single word with the meaning of the phrase.
And I was only vaguely aware of the history of the area. I was supplementing as I read.
