For me it took a while to get into this, a slow burner, however a really wonderful story: devastatingly painful, very funny......totally human.

Beautiful and forceful. It's most powerful device, in which he evokes the future of characters (telling us where they will be or how they will feel weeks, months or years on from the moment they appear in the story) is used almost entirely to wonderful effect, alternately adding dimension, nuance and tragedy, but I found could on occasion be sentimental.
