What Members Thought

When I simply read this book without considering the historical facts it appeared lacking. I was expecting something more to happen while the men were under the sea;perhaps finding Atlantis or another world inhabited by humans. However, when I took into affect that everything Vernes discussed was not yet invented, it makes me look at the book in a different light. This book prophesized the advent of the submarine and many other technological advances.

This is another classic book that I knew the plot from children’s book adaptations and movies but had never read. I had to slog my way through it. Some of it was that I knew the plot, some of it was the many paragraphs that were lists of descriptions of the undersea flora and fauna, some of it was the feeling that the science was not quite right but not knowing for sure and some not really understanding what was known in 1870 and what in the book was accurate speculation on Verne’s part.

This isn't the right edition, but it's a rebound one from the library, published in 1960 by Associated Booksellers.
