The bizarre storylines in this book were entertaining and engaging. The variety of characters was refreshing. I struggled with the amount of sexual explicitness, but a 15 year old boy probably spends way more time thinking about it than this character. This was a fantastical situation for which I could suspend my disbelief.

I enjoyed this as much as 1Q84 even though it seems to have a lot of the same characters (under different names) in the same kind of world. And it's more compact.

A book that was hard to put down because of all the philosophical metaphors that were intriguing until the end. The lives of the characters were beautifully knitted and details were revealed in a fascinating manner--as if introduced to the reader at the right place and time. I find it amusing that the story was open-ended and the mystery lingered for the reader to ponder about and make his or her own interpretations.

Talking cats, crazy wormholes in the world, you name it Murakami does not provide answers but wants to provoke thinking. What I find most interesting about the book is I imagine the story could be told from different character's viewpoints. A fine piece of work
