they say becky is a great character, to me she had no character, she's motiveless, she's supposed to be absolutely evil, so everything she does is analysed in this way, and she starts off as that victorian cliche that now looks abusive, The Ungrateful Orphan - hired as a slave-live in companion with no rights who should be eternally grateful for being fed and clothed in return for full-time use and abuse, no prospect of leaving her powerless unpaid overworked ignored position (ie no prospect of ...more
