Simon Morley, an artist working for an advertising agency, is bored with his job. When he is approached by a government agency to work on a secret project, he is intrigued by the idea of a new adventure. This project will take him from 1970 back to 1882 in New York City to unravel a mystery. His instructions are to limit interactions with other people to avoid changing the future. But that becomes difficult as he tries to protect Julia, a lovely young woman, from marrying a man who would make he ...more

I had great hopes for this even though it is pretty much outside my normal fare. the first 1/2 - 2/3 of the book was largely a comparison of New York of 1970 to New York of 1882, so that I would be astounded at what had not yet been built and how things had changed. I've never been to New York, so astonishment was not in me. I've read a bit about New York in the 19th Century, and those descriptions sounded normal to me. I read this when it first came out and have reread it once or twice, but since I was just posting about a time travel novel I just read and made reference to this I felt I would add it to books read. This is a classic time travel tale and over the years I would say it is one of my favorite books, at least in the sense of sommething entertaining yet thoughtful. If you like the concept of time travel (as I always have)read this one.

Reading this book was a bit like time traveling, in both good and not-as-good ways. Prepare yourself for men to be men, but women to be girls. Buckle up, because you’re gonna hear the n-word, although not THE n-word. And the Moon landing — well, it was only last year but it didn’t mean much.

If you can get past the fact that this book was written in a different time, about a different time, then I think you might love it. I did.

As a child of the 80s, it was wild to hear “the 80s“ — and have it m

Time and Again is a fabulous book written in 1970. It is said to be a cult classic but, shamefully I only read it recently.

Simon Morely is the main character and has joined a secret government sponsored project, the purpose of which is to test the theory that time still exists. So, Morely takes the offer and he is trained to time travel. This is one of my favorite subjects and so I've read a number of such books...but, Mr. Finney's story is the best I've found.

Simon does manage to travel through
