Such fun! There is, perhaps, only one decent characterization in this, and that one characterization is Amelia Peabody. Opinionated and forthright, she is the epitome of a domineering woman and yet she is kind, endearing and - almost - selfless. The other characters are not quite so three-dimensional, except Radcliffe Emerson the archaeologist. He mostly blusters and carries on and, if it is possible, is even more opinionated and forthright than is Amelia.

Amelia Peabody has inherited money from her father and decides to visit all the places he researched. In Italy she meets Evelyn Barton-Forbes who is down on her luck after running away with a man who ends up being a cad. Amelia has Evelyn accompany her to Egypt where they meet the Emerson brothers and become involved with their archaeological excavation at Armana. Soon a mummy begins showing up at night.
I've read all but the last book Peters wrote in the series. It's been quite awhile since I r
