The Crucible displays how mass hysteria overtook the Salem area in 1692 and 1693. Revenge was sought and easily found by casting aspersions of witchcraft on the subject of the accuser's grudge. The small community intertwines to jump on the bandwagon and vilify a good portion of the population resulting in hangings and guilt.
