A six foot, burly, red headed Scotsman... wearing only a kilt, that's flapping in the wind... embracing a damsel in distress... on top of a castle tower, overlooking a Loch... with a rearing wild stallion on the distant horizon.

I liked the two main characters. Then the author, in my opinion, wrote a scene that screwed up a character for me, by having the character behave out of character. Then it becomes a different book, devolving into a whole lot of violence, even more so than earlier in the book with physical and sexual violence, committed against both main characters by the 'big bad guy'. There are those that would argue, "historical stuff!", but thats some bullshit, it's written messed up. Trigger warnings all around. 

You know what, if you happen to read this book, just stop at the point right after they escape the murderous villagers who think one of the main characters is a witch. They ride off into the sunset living happily ever after.  The End.
