I ended up liking this very strange book about a parallel world in which little is explained. Aomame and Tengo met as 10-year-old girl and boy but life soon separated them. Now it's about 20 years later and they are trying to find each other again, but they're both mixed up in something that puts them in danger.

Loved this book! Can not help but wonder how a full translation of the original work would have read. I was sad that the book ended when it did as I would have loved to read more of the story. The characters were interesting. Their individual stories were interesting. The plot was woven so that it was easy to follow. What can I say? I want more! Scheduling for a reread.

For those who are concerned about the sex and/or violence that appears ... it IS necessary to the storyline.

Earlier, i had given this 4 stars. But, it felt as though Murakami ran out of steam in Book 3 and was feeling rushed to tie up the loose ends. Still, a very enjoyable read.
