Set outside London during the Blitz, David is a young boy dealing with the grief of his mother passing away and the unwanted reality that his father has remarried and he now has a new half-brother. Long read and with the exception with a few passages, it was just a tiring read. The books of course was my favorite part. How they talked and whispered and knew things. It was interesting how our childhood fairy tales were interpreted and written to create a horrible and frightening other world. Like others I found the dwarfs refreshing in a rather depressing story.
