Brilliant! Neil Gaiman has the most amazing imagination, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he could come up with a creepy children's story that is totally original. Coraline is a bored little girl living in a new flat with her otherwise occupied parents and some very bizarre neighbors. When she discovers a door that leads to an alternate world almost identical to her own, but with parents who seem to want to lavish her with attention and feed her all kinds of delicious food - well, she just has ...more

Back before I had even read any Neil Gaiman, my friend described this book to me. In fact, she retold the story. And just THAT was super creepy. I think it's the button eyes.

So in the intervening years I've managed to read all of Gaiman's other books for adults/teens. This was the last. I don't know what took me so long or why this was the last one.
