This is one of those titles I have been promising myself to read for some time. I have been a fan of Neil Gaiman's ever since I stumbled across Neverwhere however for some reason this title has always eluded me. Strange considering I have seen the film (which is references in the new introduction to this book) several times but not the book.
Well I will admit that the story does vary a little from the film (in fact there is a complete character missing) but I will not go in to details - spoilers ...more

This book was recommended to me by a young teenager who knew that I liked Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book very much. I also enjoyed this book. Coraline is an only child with very busy parents who work at home and never seem to have time to spend with Coraline. Therefore, she is forced to entertain herself a great deal and is often bored and asking "What should I do?" After moving into a new flat in a large house--with the predictably exotic neighbors--while exploring Coraline finds a locked doo

I wish I could give this 3.5 stars. It is very well written and entertaining. Every time I read anything from Gaiman I am always impressed by his imagination and the ingenuity with which his ideas flow from brain synapses to fingers to the page. He is extremely talented and one of my favorite writers, regardless if the stage is children's book, comic book, novel, or short story.

So, I was really looking forward to this book, and it was good but now I'm really looking forward just to seeing the movie. The book was sort of, well, short? I was really expecting something a little more complex. More like Stardust.
(below added after watching movie:)
However, it is geared towards a younger set of readers, was satisfyingly creepy, and made me think twice about opening any locked cupboards I might find in any home in my future (I have already opened all the ones worth opening in ...more

I really wanted to like this book but it never really grabbed me. It was okay, a nice little read but I was disappointed overall. I liked the concept of the book - the idea of it. But, it just didn't pull me in like I'd hoped. I suspect I might have enjoyed it more when I was younger - maybe that was what made it difficult for me. Being an adult. I felt the characters were a bit under written - and the story didn't go as far as I'd hoped. There were a lot of unanswered questions for me which det

Coraline is a wonderfully creepy story written for juvenile readers. Coraline finds an entrance to a world where everything is similar to her own, but something is not right. Can Coraline save her family and escape? I really liked the atmosphere the book creates. Gaiman does an excellent job with providing very creepy images for the reader. Coraline is a great character, she is brave but not fearless. It has a great message for kids when Coraline says that getting everything you ever wanted is n
