I loved this book. I have not read Gone Girl yet (although it is on my list) so this was my introduction to Gillian Flynn (thanks, Jennifer!). While I found the main character to be a little tedious with her inability/unwillingness to take charge of her life and move on, I suppose I also cannot imagine what witnessing your family's murder would do to a seven year old. So, setting that aside, the story is incredible. Masterful interweaving of flashbacks and current happenings to finally reveal a

This definitely deserves its name - it does take you dark places...
None of the characters were really likeable and there were some scenes that made my stomach turn and which I feel could do with a trigger warning...
...so here it is:
This book contains detailed (!) descriptions of the violent killing of animals.
I gave it three stars because it is a very gripping crime story and even though I could barely bear to listen to some passages I still couldn't stop either because I wanted to find out wha ...more

When Libby Day was seven years old, her mother and two sisters were murdered at their secluded farm. Her brother was convicted for the murder. Now, 25 years later, a club devoted to exploring (and offering other solutions for) famous grisly murders approaches her to try to exonerate her brother and find the real killer. In flashbacks, we see the points of view of the brother and the mother on the day of the murders. Flynn's writing is superb; she masterfully offers one clue after another, along

Libby Days mother and two sisters were murdered when she was seven and Libby was primarily responsible for sending her brother Ben to jail for the murders. Libby needs money so she agrees to interview people connected to the murder to find out if someone other than Ben committed the crimes in exchange for cash. The book alternates between Libby in the present and Ben and the mother Patty's actions on the day of the murder. A good dark mystery. I just found most of the characters really unlikable

Very dark and intense mystery that was refreshing because it was so different from anything else I've read in quite a while. Absolutely wonderful prose. Gillian writes very unique metaphors and similes that were constantly catching my eye. I went with 4 stars over 5 since I thought part of the ending reveal was too blatantly hinted at early in the book for me. Don't get me wrong though, there were definitely twists and surprises a plenty!
