Honestly I'm just happy I finally finished. 600 pages of what exactly? I really hate when books are noticeably drawn out. Is it just to torture us readers?? There was absolutely no reason why this book shouldn't have been 400 pages. Practically nothing happened until around 60% in. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this series and I'm not impressed at all. The writing is grand, extremely descriptive, at times overly so and distracting and not needed. Libba Bray creates a very realistic 1920s roaring new york life complete with zeigield dancing girls, KKK, segregation, over-the-top excesses. The people of the day are easily influenced and want to be entertained by anything and anyone. The characters in the book, especially Evie and Memphis, to me, are just learning about themselves, their abilities and how they affect the people around them. This s

Maybe it was the language or the time period but for whatever reason I found myself laying it aside and not wanting to pick it up again. I like Bray's writing but this one I'll have to try at another time and see if I get past the first 75 pages. I won't even rate it until I can get further into the plotline.
