"Sometimes it seems like everything I've done has been to help you be ready for someone else."

Ugh, nope. Nope nope nope. I didn't like this one. I want to blame it on the fact that I've read 3 or 4 dystopian books back to back - which is always a bad idea - but that's not it.

I just...didn't connect with anyone in this book. And, I don't agree with Cassia. Most of her actions & attractions just don't make sense,

and the world just didn't come alive. it was like I had to use all the other books I'

Imagine a society where there are only 100 songs to listen to, 100 history lessons to learn, 100 poems to read and where couples are matched based on compatibility of the match and not love. This is the world where Cassia lives and she's about to find out who her match is. Everything seems to be perfect especially when she's matched with Xander - the boy from down the street, her best friend. Then she sees another's face and she begins to wonder if her world is as perfect as she's always thought ...more

On the surface, it's easy to see why publishers were eager to snap up Ally Condie's new series "Matched." In many ways, its a spiritual heir to the dystopian future of the best-selling "Hunger Games" series, which is all the rage in young adult fiction at the moment. (That and those damn sparkly vampires).

Both stories feature a central heroine thrust into a position where she is forced to question a totalitarian regime. In "Games" we saw how the games made our hero into a hero and a symbol of th

This was an interesting story. I didn't get as emotionally invested as I do with some books, which I find to be true for utopian/distopian type novels, but I did find myself reflecting, and even journaling, on quite a bit on certain aspects of the story. Like so many dystopian societies, almost all actions of its citizens are tightly controlled, and in the beginning nobody seems to have a problem with being told what to do in every aspect of their lives. Except for Cassia. When there's a mix up ...more

This marks my 30th book this year and thus I've successfully completed the challenge. Yay! *throws confetti*

As for the book itself:

I enjoyed getting to know the world Cassie lives in. Even though the idea isn't exactly new (and I found myself comparing the story to other books I've read recently like the Hunger Games or 'classics' like Brave New World and 1984), it's the details and the characters that count and I liked both. I'm looking forward to the next book and already have some ideas of w

Well written but very teen oriented. Did not end how I wanted but I will be reading the second book.

Good futuristic society story, well written and told.

Had I not just read Delirium, which has similar themes and was better, I'd have given this another star. In this future dystopian society, all members are matched for marriage, their lives planned out for them. When the protagonist sees that she has been matched with two boys by mistake, she questions what love truly is and if society has it wrong. ...more

Like another dystopian tale. Interesting, but slow paced.
