12/17/2020: Reread! Love this series.
09/19/2018: Read for the second time.

There are a couple of things that really drove me to reread this series. This series has been at the forefront of my mind since I finished it. I think that it is a combination of things. First, I absolutely adore the main character, Penryn! She is exactly the type of heroine that I love! She is fierce. She's strong, selfless, and determined. She will put her loved ones before herself every time and she doesn't know how to

This was a refreshing take on dystopian/post-apocalyptic fiction. I mean, who would've thought that angels--usually portrayed as good, righteous and pure--are the bad guys here? I started reading this and was expecting something like Hush, Hush which totally sucked but I'm glad that I was wrong! The whole book was jam-packed with suspense and ass-kicking fight scenes. Very good beginning to what I hope will be a long running series. The characters were very interesting and the story was a page turner that was very hard to put down. Definitely looking forward to more.

I loved this Book. Susan Ee has done a wonderful job of creating a post-apocolyptic story with angels, archangels, humans, demons and San Francisco! I found the book interesting, engrossing and I didn't want to put it down. Some of the images in my own mind from the discriptions of mutilated bodies bothered me but it lent to the story telling overall. I strongly recommend this book to all. ...more

A solid four stars...for now. This book is interesting, creepy, macabre, and keeps a pretty good pace. Putting it down wasn't easy. I almost-ALMOST- connected with the characters, but not quite. Maybe that will happen with future books. This ended in such a cliffhanger I can't help but pick the next one up. I am giving this a four star rating for now, but chances are that will change. I just can't imagine this story leaving me anytime soon, and to me that is a hallmark of good story telling. ...more
