What Members Thought
I don't read very much YA literature. As a fan of adult genre fiction, I find much of the category to poorly done. I've read the Hunger Games, a book which obviously shares much in common with Angelfall. And yet that book rated only middling well for me, but I loved Angelfall!
I'm a big fan of angel stories. I've always thought they were creepy, and I like the way it subverts common perception in our society. So the plotline of this seemed meant for me, as we have a destroyed Earth, laid to waste ...more

I loved the whole premise of the book, to the extent that for several years I have wondered whether there would be mileage in writing a book where the archangels came to earth. Well, this has proved that yes, there is definitely mileage and this is a brilliant example of it. I really loved the characters, I loved how Raffe was an agnostic angel (that made me laugh, it was brilliant), I loved Penryn and I really enjoyed the way that the world was only explained piece by piece. I think this was a

I can't believe I liked this book, but I did! I liked it in the same way I love The Walking Dead. There was action, danger, and gore. If I have one beef with paranormal books it's that they seem to be romance novels with furry or fanged protagonists. Despite the potential inter-species love conflict (what else is new) the romance was minimal, which is the way I like my fantasy novels. I like my DNA human, thank you.

This reminded me a bit of When Gracie Met the Grump, although I guess it should be the other way around since it was published more than a decade before Gracie...
So looking at it 14 years after publication, I probably have a more critical eye than if I had read it earlier. I have so many unanswered questions, but I will give the author the benefit of the doubt and assume she answers them in the next book. And as for the teenaged Mary Sue protagonist... she is definitely a product of her times. ...more

I loved this Book. Susan Ee has done a wonderful job of creating a post-apocolyptic story with angels, archangels, humans, demons and San Francisco! I found the book interesting, engrossing and I didn't want to put it down. Some of the images in my own mind from the discriptions of mutilated bodies bothered me but it lent to the story telling overall. I strongly recommend this book to all.
