A dystopian world where people have eradicated diseases and believed they have produced healthiest children only to have those children live short lives; females to their 20th birthday and males to their 25th birthday before a mysterious virus claim their lives. This is the world our protagonist, Rhine Ellery, lives in. She is 16 and as the novel opens, she has just been kidnapped and chosen to be a bride; one of 3 brides to a young man who's current wife is dying.

The first couple of times I picked up this book I was on the fence about whether it was worth reading or not. However, eventually I convinced myself to give it a shot. I am so glad I did. This book has stuck with me long after finishing it. It's not that it's overly unique, although there are unique ideas, but probably the way it's portrayed is what makes this book so excellent. The book is well written and I'm so greatful that the wait for the next book in the trilogy is only a few months away! ...more

Shelves: meh
As some of the other reviewers here have pointed out, there are a lot of flaws with the dystopian setting here. However, some strong writing and characterization made me like it somewhat, despite that.

I found this book to be creepy and interesting; however, the characters were flat and the writing poor. It ended in such a way you'd need to keep going, but I cared so little I simple Googled the rest of the series, which sounds horribly stupid with many loose ends. ...more
