I admit I had read some previous things about this book and the plot of vampire going on a ski trip kind of made me giggle. But after I got into the book, I was hooked. In this book, we have the introduction of Adrian, which I was really looking forward to. In the beginning of the novel, Rose has to take a test. I admit I had read some previous things about this book and the plot of vampire going on a ski trip kind of made me giggle. But after I got into the book, I was hooked. In this book, we have the introduction of Adrian, which I was really looking forward to. In the beginning of the novel, Rose has to take a test. So she and Dimitri go to find Arthur S., the instructor. Only to find that he and the family he guards have been slain. This sets up the rest of the novel. The story was quick paced and I didn't feel like I was bogged down by anything unnecessary. Also in this installment, we get to met the legendary Janine Hathaway, Rose's mother. They're relationship isn't the best to say the least, but I liked how they seemed to understand each other by the end of the novel. But I'm getting ahead of myself, back to the plot. Dimitri, a Moroi guardian gets news of the Strigoi movement in Spokane and tells Rose. Who happens to tell Mason. This would be all good, but Mason and others are ready to attack the Strigoi for their transgressions. They don't act on the news immediately until Rose happens to break up with Mason after a heated moment. After Mason leaves Rose's quarters, Rose wanders off and talks to Dimitri, whose the actual person she has feelings for. She realizes that she can't keep leading Mason on. So she sets off to tell him, only to find him gone. After talking to guards, she realizes Mason has taken two other friends with him to Spokane. Rose goads Christian, Lissa's boyfriend, into using compulsion to let the guards let them out. This doesn't work, so Rose sneaks up the guard and bashes him across the head. So Christian and Rose head towards Spokane. They get there and they find the trio sitting dejectedly in the food court. They didn't find any Strigoi in the tunnels, but Christian wants to take a look, so of course they do. Rose notices letters on the wall and she puts together that it's basically a hit list for the Moroi Royal Families. So they leave the mall, only to be stopped by humans working with the Strigoi. So they fight, but are soon overpowered. So Rose and her friends are held captive and Isiah, the leader, uses one of the Dhampir boys for basically a snack. They are there for at leas two days. During a doze off, Rose encounters Adrian in a dream. He tells to her to tell him where she is, but before she can, she wakes up. Rose thinks of using magic to get them out and she conveys this to Christian as best she can. He convinces one of the guards that he's ready to do what they ask. They release him and he pretends to bite Rose, but he's really using his fire magic on her. She manages to get free and overtake the guards. They get out only to be stopped by Isiah and Elena. So she holds them off and then fits the two of them. But Mason comes back and helps Rose fight. But Isiah snaps Mason's neck, enraging Rose. She takes on Isiah and manages to would him with glass. She then fights Elena and beheads her. She turns to Isiah, who is weak for the stab, and she also beheads him. After this she mourns over Mason and that when Dimitri and the other guardians rush in. She's and the rest of the group are taken back to St. Vladimir. After wards, Rose's gets two tattoos on her neck, signifying she killed two Strigoi. She doesn't make up with her mother, but she feels like she can understand her better now. The novel ends with Dmitri admitting his love for Rose.

So in short, a lot of freaking drama and action mixed into one and I am so glad I have Shadow Kiss on my bookshelf. But I'm sad because why did Mason have to die. He was such a sweet person. You shall be missed, Mason. ...more

3.5 stars. I like these characters, Rose wasn't as out of control as she was in the first book and I liked her better, but it didn't seem like as much happened in this book.

I really appreciate at the beginning of the book how they recap everything we just learned in the previous books. Why don't more YA books do this?

This book wasn't bad and was a nice continuation of the story. There were some more eye-rolling romantic moments, but not too many. And it set the stage nicely for the third book without ending on a cliff hanger. ...more

A nice surprise, that one. At first I thought I'd just find it OK, Rose being her tantrum-throwing self and all that. However, she actually goes through positive changes, and gets to reflect on her behaviour and grow up, both as a teenager and as a character. Granted, circumstances in the last third of the book could only force her to, but the changes started before that. Now I feel she can really shine as the strong person she's meant to be. ...more

I'm really starting to enjoy this series. Each book seems to get better and better. I love the touch of sarcasm and angst from Rose as well as the humor and light romance laced through it as well. A definite keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of book. ...more

when i started the book, i wasn't sure if i would like it or not, seeing how i wasn't a huge fan of the first one. i will admit that it was better than the first one, but i'm still not happy with it. while the story did start where the last one ended, i feel it still took long to get going. but once it got going, it was pretty good. i originally thought that i wasn't going to finish the series, but the twist with mason and the dimitri and rose thing, i might just give the next one a shot. ...more

A new voice was reading this book, which was weird at first. Once I got used to her, I have to say, I actually preferred her to the first narrator, as she didn't turn anyone into a whiny little girl, nor did she make anyone sound strangely hoarse.
