Shelves: mystery, sci-fi, thriller, magical-realism, nbrc-book-of-the-month

This book was a wild ride. At parts sweet and profound, at other parts horrific, with a side of suspense and wonder. My only complaint, and it's a very very minor one, is that I wish the romance angle had been pushed a little further. Or like at all really. But that's the sap in me talking, the book is great and stands on it's own without it.

2.5 This book was too dark for me and I found the main character, Cassie, made too many dumb decisions, even while having a trustworthy mentor at her side. The idea of magical books was intriguing, though.
