"Where's Bear?"

Wow. I'm stunned by how good this one was. It's a slow burn - one that needs to wrap the story around you to pull you in. The intro had my head swimming - there are so many girls in the cabin and the 2 counselors - to try to narrow down when Barbara, the missing camper, was last seen.

But woven between in the parts of the story is the story of Barbara's older brother - missing at 9 and assume murdered. There are a lot of pieces, a lot of characters, but they all have pieces about t ...more

This month's @fabledpost Pioneer choice is this historical/mystery/thriller/drama with rich people behaving badly, a summer camp for the elite, and two missing children in the same family. As the story unfurls, even though it is told in multiple POVs over various years, each chapter is labeled so clearly at the top that I never felt lost. The way Alice was treated by everyone in her life broke my heart, though even she wasn't a completely sympathetic character. The fact that both of her children ...more

While this is well written, it was incredibly slow and at least 100 pages longer than it needed to be. I read a half of dozen other books while reading this to give myself a break. I just could not get into it.
