I'm always a little nervous about re-tellings, especially ones I love so much. But this one was well crafted, with deliciously awful characters and a house and atmosphere that were almost characters themselves. This is my first Alice Feeney book and boy did it not disappoint.

This story is about the Darker family. Beatrice (nana) Darker is the grandmother of the family. She is Frank's mother. Frank had married Nancy and they had three daughters, Rose, Lily, and Daisy. Daisy was the youngest of them but she was also fragile due to a "broken" heart.

The family all gathers for Nana's 80th birthday at her home, Seaglass. Her birthday falls on Halloween so she also does something a little special. All the f ...more

I don't really get the hype on this one. It was so boring throughout most of the book with very unlikable characters. I was able to guess a few of the twist but that one thing at the end. Nope, not for me. I can see how that type of end might be for some but not for me it just angered me. ...more
