I'm reading the bundled version, but I want to review each one separately.
This was one of the books I added to my "to read" looking at books that Felicia Day had given 5 stars to. I do this with some of my friends, and since Felicia Day's taste runs similarly (but not TOO similarly) to mine it seemed like a good idea.
Yelena seemed to go from one bad situation to another before somehow finding a new beginning when she's trained to be the Commander's new food taster. With the threat of being pois ...more

Poison Study was a quick, fun read but nothing special. I read it almost entirely in one go and while I can't find anything bad to say about it, nothing stood out to me as great.
It's one of those books that keeps you guessing. Just when you're sure you know who the bad guy is, there's a twist that leads you in another direction.

So much happens in this book, I hardly know where to begin!
We have Yelena, a strong, smart heroine with flaws. My favorite. We have Valek, who is strong, mysterious, and a bit brooding. Protective, yet still treats her as an equal. Totally my jam. We have solid world building. Ixia becomes a real place in your mind. You get enough information to understand where we are going, unlike other first books in a series. And you get interesting side characters, although at times not enough of them.

I must confess that I didn't believe that this book would be amazing. The idea of it is interesting, however I was really afraid of the development. I've never been so glad to be wrong!
Poison Study was wonderful! Yelena was a funny and interesting character and I absolutely loved the world created by Maria V. Snyder.
