This book was every bit as good as a friend said. To emphasize how good - I generally do not enjoy books written in the first person, but this is one story that had to be told that way.

Yelena's life has been a story of survival, so becoming the Commander's food taster and risking death by poison is a big step up from an immediate hanging. She learns quickly and is resourceful, and there are some opportunities for escape, but there's this little matter of needing a daily antidote against a very p

I'm reading the bundled version, but I want to review each one separately.

This was one of the books I added to my "to read" looking at books that Felicia Day had given 5 stars to. I do this with some of my friends, and since Felicia Day's taste runs similarly (but not TOO similarly) to mine it seemed like a good idea.

Poison Study was a quick, fun read but nothing special. I read it almost entirely in one go and while I can't find anything bad to say about it, nothing stood out to me as great.

This was my second read of this book and I loved it. Yelena has been sentenced to death. She murdered someone and is about to have her death sentence carried out. While taking the trip that will ultimately lead to her demise she is offered a deal. Become the Commander's food taster or die the death she was sentenced to. Yelena seeing a gift horse when it's presented accepts the deal and begins her study of poisons, hence the title Poison Study. As you can imagine, not everyone is happy about thi ...more

I must confess that I didn't believe that this book would be amazing. The idea of it is interesting, however I was really afraid of the development. I've never been so glad to be wrong!
Poison Study was wonderful! Yelena was a funny and interesting character and I absolutely loved the world created by Maria V. Snyder.
