Loved it! I had no idea what I was getting in to when I first started the book. I have a bad habit of NOT reading synopsis but go solely on the cover of a book....

I really enjoyed this book! Yelena is a smart, level-headed protagonist and her journey throughout this book was so interesting. She had a believable backstory and really grew and changed over the course of the book. Valek was a great male lead and I hope they develop this relationship more in the future. The side characters were also well-drawn and had distinct personalities without becoming stereotypes. The contrast between the militant north and the magic-using south was well done. (view spoi

I am getting really tired of reading books that are all about the rape and torture and violence committed against very young teenage women. And the love interest between the 33-year-old assassin/spy and 19-year-old rape victim slave is creepy as hell.
Took a few chapters to get into but good once it got going
Caught my interest right from the start and I ended up finishing it the same day. Heading straight into the next book.
Writing is a little too easy but I like the plot a lot. Well done.
