3.5 stars. Rating this one was hard for me. I love Taylor Jenkins Reid. Her novels are consistently great reads, she is a gifted storyteller. And I expected and wanted to love this one. And this is a good book, for the most part. Well written, interesting characters and themes. But, something just never completely connected for me. And it read slow to me, at times I felt like entire sections could have been edited out. But mostly, this is a tennis book and I don’t like or care remotely about ten ...more

It is always amazing how much buzz and craziness erupts around a new TJR book. Don't get me wrong, I do like to read this author. Her books are unique and full of heart. But I have never found them to be anything above a 3 star rating, and this one is 2 stars for me. I liked the book, but didn't really enjoy it.

My rating is not a rating on the main character. I suppose many people might find her unlikable, but she had to be hard. She had to be ambitious. But the book just didn't engage me like

This book was so enjoyable! I was worried that, as someone with a pretty strong aversion to sports, I would never be able to get into it. But TJR is masterful at telling a riveting story without an ounce of wasted prose or tedious sports commentary. Well done!

Carrie Soto was a big deal back in the day. She won more at Wimbledon than anyone else ever. She is known for her temper, her solitude. But she decides years after her retirement that it’s time for her to get back out there. And so she does. Using a loophole, she begins training with her old coach (her dad). At its core, Carrie Soto is Back is about a woman who has accepted the things that the world has said about her, embraced those thoughts, and then used those terrible things to her advantage ...more

Another masterpiece from one of my favorite storytellers. There is a reason I will always read a TJR book - no description needed.

I recently watched the US Open with Serena retiring and a young Iga Światek dominating and breaking records all year. Reading Carrie Soto is Back felt so familiar, emotional and happy. I think it’s a difficult task - to not bore someone with just listing scores. BUT It felt like I was at every match, envisioning the plays and points. The character development was perf

This was not my favorite by this author as I am not a big tennis fan and the main character was not very likable. This was a great audiobook as there were many voice actors.
