Very rarely a book comes out that steals my breath away. The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak is a revelation. Narrated by Death, this story follows Leisel as she steals books in Nazi Germany while she and her best friend Rudy discover the power of words, language and friendship. Zusak's writing is mesmerizing; it's sarcastic, emotional, sophisticated and wondrous.
It is interesting to see that it appears to be targetted to young adult readers - please don't be put off by this - it is very much an ad

This must be one of the best audiobooks I have listened to. The narrator was excellent. The story was compelling. I laughed. I cried. The final chapters were intense. Even knowing what is going to happen, I still found myself wanting to weep...not a good idea while driving! Although this is a teen book, I highly recommend it to adults as well.

This is such a wonderful story…full of love, laughter, joy, peace, hate, weeping, sadness and upheaval.

The book focuses on Liesel as she falls in love with reading and the power of words. It also shows her friendship with Rudy Steiner, the boy next door. I don't want to give anything away but this is a book well worth reading. It is most of all a story about humanity at both ...more

Wow, wow, wow! This book was absolutely breathtaking. If you are even remotely thinking about reading a book this year, this book should be it.
