Very rarely a book comes out that steals my breath away. The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak is a revelation. Narrated by Death, this story follows Leisel as she steals books in Nazi Germany while she and her best friend Rudy discover the power of words, language and friendship. Zusak's writing is mesmerizing; it's sarcastic, emotional, sophisticated and wondrous.
It is interesting to see that it appears to be targetted to young adult readers - please don't be put off by this - it is very much an ad

*hands cup of tears to Zusak*
"Cheers."
Seriously, I don't think I've ever downright sobbed while reading a book before, apparently I'm not reading very good books haha This book was amazing. Yes, parts of it were terribly sad, but the really beautiful parts were perfectly mixed in and just made me cry harder. But for you Zusak, for this book, I would happily (and likely will) give all my tears.

I loved this book. And when I started it, I really didn't think I would. I actually started it a few months ago and then put it down. I'm not even sure why, I was enjoying it... I guess I just got distracted by something else. And I knew it was going to be sad.

But this book is just beautiful! It's very touching and sweet, at the same time it's very real and sobering. I cried for pretty much the last 1/4 of the book. But it's one I'm keeping and I'm sure I'll reread someday.

This must be one of the best audiobooks I have listened to. The narrator was excellent. The story was compelling. I laughed. I cried. The final chapters were intense. Even knowing what is going to happen, I still found myself wanting to weep...not a good idea while driving! Although this is a teen book, I highly recommend it to adults as well.

This is such a wonderful story…full of love, laughter, joy, peace, hate, weeping, sadness and upheaval.

Interesting point of view from Death. Dark yet humourous. The numerous passing of Death and the character... worth a read.

It was my second time through this book and and I still cried like crazy toward the end. Narrated by Death, it is the story of Liesel Meminger, who is living with foster parents in a suburb outside Munich during World War II. The book focuses on Liesel as she falls in love with reading and the power of words. It also shows her friendship with Rudy Steiner, the boy next door. I don't want to give anything away but this is a book well worth reading. It is most of all a story about humanity at both ...more

What a wonderful book. I fell in love with many of the characters and I even enjoyed the narrator. A different perspective on World War II. This story had me captivated and I was sad when it was over.
