I am so tired of really good books with really crappy endings that I'm taking a star off of what should have been a five-star book. For most readers, this look inside life at a school for the Deaf will be eye opening. It tells the stories of three main characters: February, the school's headmistress; Austin, a student from a prominent Deaf family; and Charlie, a female student born to a hearing family who prevented her from learning American Sign Language and had her get a cochlear implant that ...more

Overall, it was very well written, with the exception of the disjointed non-linear plotline. Was also quite educational. This would have been a 5 star had it not been the lack of cohesion.

This book really makes you think about Deaf culture and who should make decisions and how for minors especially. The author met our book club on Zoom with even more information and really helped us all think about language acquisition and lack thereof.
