I tried really hard to like this one, but I ultimately found it fairly dull and didn't understand the point. The Biblical re-telling was more interesting than the Russian literary plot in my opinion.

Somewhere between fable and a Russian version of Catch 22? Greed and corruption don't care if you are an atheist or not, they still are the devil's work or something like that.

No doubt this is a brilliant satirical allegory, but I found it very hard going & didn't enjoy it much at all. I can't begin to contemplate or truly understand what the author experienced living through these times. For insight I had to turn to Kris's review - thanks Kris. ...more
