I try to read contemporary once in awhile to switch up my reading Genre from time to time. Heard good tell-all tales on this story of a fictional character that's an actor and about her 7 husbands. Evelyn Hugo hires Monique Grant a unpopular writer no one heard of. But Evelyn has her reasons to why she hired Monique. As the story kept going I figured it out long before reveille. I waited weeks for this book to be available on my libby app and it was worth the wait. Taylor jenkins Reid has me hooked. I read Daisy Jones and The Six and loved that and I loved this story.

Evelyn Hugo was a strong character. I loved her sass and her determination. She came from nothing and worked her way to the top. Yes, some of her husbands were used to help get her to the top. At times she used husbands as a stepping stone for her next move.

I loved the way this story was written. Told by I waited weeks for this book to be available on my libby app and it was worth the wait. Taylor jenkins Reid has me hooked. I read Daisy Jones and The Six and loved that and I loved this story.

I loved the way this story was written. Told by Evelyn to Monique for a biography she wanted Monique to write after she died. Evelyn's story had never been told and she picked Monique to be that person to share her legacy with the world. I will admit I had wondered throughout the entire story as to the reason as why Evelyn specifically chose her. Once it is revealed the reason as to why it was a shock, one I hadn't seen coming, even though I knew there was going to be some big plot twist since it was foreshadowed quite a bit.

Out of all Evelyn's husbands, Harry, was my favorite. He was her true friend from the start all the way to the end. He was kind and caring. In his younger years he was always careful with his gay releationships as the time period of the early story it was a taboo thing to have and he also didn't want to taint Evelyn's career. I am glad that her daughter, Conner, was with Harry.

I loved the time period of the early story and how the author progresses the story with the change of times. Also it showed how Hollywood was/is. Evelyn was a bombshell for her attributes but as she got older Hollywood fell out of love with her.

This story had so many emotions in it. I purposely tried not to read it as fast because I just wanted the story to keep going, but by the end i was eager to see the end. And now I just want to relive the entire book again.

Overall I loved this book. The emotions, the struggle, the love, etc all had me hooked from page 1. I see why this book is so highly rated. Taylor Jenkins Reid just has this wonderful style of writing that hooks the reader in the different way she presents a story to the reader. ...more
