Sarah's Key is a fascinating historical novel that covers a little known part of the events leading up to World War II...the persecution of Jews in German-occupied France by the Vichy government. The story weaves the past and the present together as journalist Julia Jarmond investigates the 1942 Vel'd'Hiv' round up and the subsequent disappearance of a 10 year old girl and her family and discovers the connection that this disappearance has to her own family. Sarah's story is most touching, deeply sad and well portrayed. However, the parallel present, seems forced around Sarah's past. It's a good book, though. I heartily recommend it as Holocaust literature. It is deeply moving and symbolic. I am looking now for more books about Holocaust times.. Please recommend to me if you read this.

Truly captivating!

I got caught up quickly in this story. I had never known that France had done something like this and it was definitely eye opening.
The story was chalk full of emotion and this is the reason I became so engrossed in the story. I do admit that the first half of the book was more enjoyable for me rather than the last half. The last half of the book got a bit too typical for me.
Overall a wonderful and well written story.

Best book I've read in quite some time.
