"One thing I’ve learned from all these books: it pays to be paranoid."
This was a wonderful, frightening, frustrating read. It paints the South very accurately - ugly and all. It shows that women aren't really full of Southern hospitality or charm but rather are little self involved and competitive. It's been awhile since I've read a book that I couldn't put down! If you think this about your typical Vampire Dracula style book you would be wrong. A great story and great writing. Characters are so we'll developed and you get to know them as you would neighbors. I will certainly read other books by Grady Hendrix.

The first part was all 90s nostalgia and satirical humor, which I was there for. The second part of the book turned very dark. The sexual violence and body horror seemed gratuitous. The white housewives all had distinct personalities, but the one black character seemed stereotypical and bland. Largely, I just think horror is not my genre of choice.
