"One thing I’ve learned from all these books: it pays to be paranoid."
This was a wonderful, frightening, frustrating read. It paints the South very accurately - ugly and all. It shows that women aren't really full of Southern hospitality or charm but rather are little self involved and competitive. It did show the power of a book and how well it can hold together friendships and help weather rough times. I don’t know what I expected within this book, but it wasn’t what I got. And what I got was much better than I thought it could be.
Everyone’s been in one of those book clubs where they feel like whatever book they read is going to be terrible and their opinions are going to be cancelled by some of the other members of the club.

I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't particularly like this book. I enjoyed the book club ladies and thought they were portrayed well. But the way they approached the main problem was so ditzy it aggravated me to distraction.

This book hit my horror sweet spot. It was just the right amount of gross for me. I also liked how the real horror of the story wasn't necessarily the monster, but the gas-lighting and trivializing of Patricia and her friends by their husbands and the racism and classism of society in regards to the first victims. When horror novels tackle the real everyday evils in addition to the made up monsters it really adds an additional layer to the dread and fear because stuff like this could really happ

Look, it was interesting. Not my cup of tea, and really weird. I liked the overall story telling, just not my topic.
