This book was fantastic! I loved the unique world and characters and I was completely drawn in - so much that I didn't care that parts of it was written in second person POV (I'm not a big fan of this POV, but Nora made it work) and it took me most of the novel to realize it's in present tense. I was a bit confused about the timeline - not enough to stop me from reading, but I had to guess some of the sections are flashbacks, but once it clicked into place - it was amazing! When I first started this book I struggled and truly thought I was going to DNF this book. I kept saying I'll give it 20 more pages and if it doesn't get better I'm done. All of a sudden I couldn't wait to see what happened next and I was hooked on this book. I thought it was going to be a 1 or 2 star book and now it's a 5 star book. It took second for me to understand the world Jemisin created, but the writing is fantastic. I really enjoyed discovering this world and the characters. I am excited to read the next one!

Wow.

That’s all I’ve got. Just WOW.

Ok. I’ve got something else. I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read this yet (and what are you waiting for?), but for those that have read it - they will understand. How did I not realize what was happening? How did she surprise me not once, but twice? After the fact, I couldn’t believe I didn’t know.
