Fantasy horror like nothing I've had the pleasure to read before. Original, creepy, riveting and fascinating - definitely a book I will remember and recommend often. A story within a story with many layers and lots of creepy children - yes please & thank you!👧 ...more

“Have a holly jolly Christmas”
.
After reading NOS4A2, I will never hear Christmas songs the same way again. Those songs that repeat on an endless loop on those radio stations that start playing them before Thanksgiving. 😱( That radio station is still playing them two days past Christmas.) This novel is Halloween meets Christmas in the United Inscapes of America, a twisted, demented version of the country where Christmasland is found. Christmasland is a conjuring of the mind of Charles T. Manx.

Another Joe Hill checked off my list. This time around he takes on a fresh view of such an established literary character as a vampire. Once I opened the book I got sucked (hehe, get it?) into the creepy world of Christmasland. True, it did drag a bit in the second half, and I can't say I was completely enamoured by Vic McQeen, but I was greatly entertained and spent several enjoyable evenings on the couch with the chunky novel and a hot cup of tea. ...more

Kate Mulgrew could narrate the phone book and I would listen to however many hours that would end up being.

Every time the action was rising and I thought there was about to be a final climax...I noticed how much time there was still left in the recording. It was a rollercoaster of a book, and I'm definitely glad I read it in Spring.

Joe Hill scores another win in this suspenseful tale of a maniac in an old Rolls Royce who kidnaps children and takes them to "Christmasland" So much horror today is either very slow or jumps to the gore too soon. This book will have you turning the pages without much "ick" factor.

Highly recommended.
