So I got about 30% through this audiobook and then just got too grossed out and depressed. Maybe I'll try to give this another try some other time but I feel like there is no one to root for in this book which is a huge turn off for me. And it's a shame because Joe Hill has the same creepy, supernatural edge to his writing as Stephen King which makes the reader always question what is real and what isn't. A twisted take on never ending Christmas in Charlie Manx's Christmasland. It was suspenseful, funny, scary, and retro all at the same time. One can't help but compare Hill to his father and I often found myself thinking of Pennywise the Clown as Manx's character developed throughout. I also appreciated the small mentions of King's world throughout the novel.

The end was explosive (literally) but it just felt a little too long to me. Otherwise, a great effort from Joe Hill. I'm excited to read mor

I cursed myself a few times for reading this book right before bed. Scary on a surface level - young kids being kidnapped and taken to a place called Christmasland by a vampiric old man in a Wraith. Scarier on a human level - living through losing the innocence of childhood.
