A good book can take places you’ve never been.
A great book not only takes you to places you’ve never been, but has those places linger in your thoughts after the final page is turned.

I really wanted to love this book, but I fear it got great reviews because of the topic, not the delivery. I felt it dragged and some of the minor characters were flat. I liked the historical references such as Emmett Till, and Chris’s character felt more realistic.
Also, many schools (including mom) are using this book, and having a book that is sponsored by the BLM movement, a political movement, as part of a curriculum seems like it will isolate kids, not bring them together. As a choice . . ...more

This book took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. Not gonna lie, I cried a lot while reading this one. 10/10 would recommend though
