What Members Thought

There isn't enough stars available for me to give this book, it it beyond 5 stars. So beyond 5 stars.
The Hate U Give,
is real,
it is truth,
no lies told.
Powerful,
meaningful,
inspiring.
Heartbreaking,
anger/rage inducing.
It is 2018, and it disgusts me that we live in world where this book is life for some, for many. Fucking police brutality, systematic racism has to stop. What makes someone think that their white skin makes them any better then some with brown or black? It doesn't. We live in ...more

This is a difficult but important read. In fact, it should be required reading in schools. ESPECIALLY FOR THE WHITE KIDS. In fact, maybe anyone in a public office should read this. Although judging the outcry by some of my fellow whites at being asked to wear a mask to help stop the spread of a deadly contagion, I'm not sure how well that would go down.
As I said, a difficult read. Not because I don't believe in white privilege, I do. But because I seem to have an overinflated sense of justice in ...more

Angie Thomas brings light to an issue that shouldn't still be an issue in 2017. And if this reaches more people, then finally we might be a whole nation.
Starr lives in a very poor area, but an area that affords her family enough money to send her and her siblings into a nice, private school. Sometimes she's neighborhood Starr, and other times she's private school Starr. But the night where she sees a white cop kill her best friend, well, now she's hiding Starr.
She doesn't want to cause trouble, ...more

Excellent book, sat on my shelf for so long and finally I dove into it, and I never wanted to come out. You must see both sides to understand but yet it's not enough. Thank Angie Thomas for writing this story. Everyone in this country should read it. Starr, Khalil and the rest will stay with me for a long time. I've swapped it to a school in PA. Hopefully they will enjoy it as much as I did.
