What Members Thought

SECRETS ARE LIES
SHARING IS CARING
PRIVACY IS THEFT"
Wow, what a frightening and interesting little story. As I watch kids with their phones and headphones, as we watch more kids commit suicide during a live feed - you can't help but wonder, would we ever see something like this in our time. I don't think in mine, but....my kids? their kids?
Man...I just don't know.
I always hope there will be Mercer's - there to speak up and point out how crazy it is. This was an interesting story. I liked it. ...more

Our church book group chose to read this book as a jumping off point for discussing values. While the story was interesting on its own (to me), I found it much more helpful as a spotlight into what our screen habits, and our mindless handing over of our information (often without even knowing that we are doing it) is doing. Very thought provoking in this light. If you can get over the obviously intentional sensationalism of parts of the story line, it is a good book for starting a discussion amo

DNF at 20%~ Normally I try to make it to at least 50% but with this one I just couldn't do it. It was so mind-numbing. I'm lucky I got as far as I did. No way could I sit through another 13 hours of audio. Sorry.

The Point: 5 of 5
The overall book: 4 of 5
The characters: 3 of 5
Very important message. Exasperating to read. As a privacy advocate, it regularly made me want to (theoretically) punch something or (silently) scream - or both. The idiocy and naivete caused much muttering and verbal coaching of characters (even while listening & walking in public - sad to say).
Unbelievably important. I hope people listen closely.
Now. To disapear...
