This was a wonderful story! Equal parts lore and adventure - this is the story of Vasilisa. Wild and near fey in the forest, she is angry with her only two choices presented to a woman in her time - marry and have his babies or off to a convent with you. I writing was so well done and well paced, the story was easy to read and hard to put down. I loved pluc

I might give book 2 a try since I already checked it out from the library. Just ok nothing all exciting. Writing was good. Vivid scenes but I didn't care about any characters.

A lush fairy tale set in 14th century Russia. Katherine Arden and Naomi Novik must've been drinking the same water during 2017-18 for they've both created different-but-similar folk tales of a Russian winter. And let's throw in a little Wintersmith while we're at it.... the spirit of Winter tantalized by a clever, magical maiden.

It's a cautionary tale - don't forget the spirits of a place in favor of a new-fangled religion.
