This took me a really long time to read, because I'm right in the middle of the biggest book slump I've ever experienced. Because it took me so long, I wavered between 3 and 4 stars for a rating.

The story was interesting, although not really at all what I expected. I wasn't as interested in her present day storyline as I was in her past.

Shelves: swapping-book, own-it
It was a great book. Totally grabbed me and I couldn't put it down. Always wanting to know what would come next. Although the story is fictional it is based on what happened to orphan children. This one will stay with me for awhile. ...more

A book inspired by true events this is a very powerful read about what happened to Jewish orphans who were placed in the Hebrew Orphan Asylum that was built in New York City in the 1800's. The story takes place starting 1919 when after a family tragedy, Rachel and her brother Sam are sent to the Asylum and separated when Rachel is sent to the Hebrew Infant Home. The story alternates between Rachel as an adult and child trying to find her rightful place in life after the horrible abuse she suffer ...more
