It took me three attempts to finally get enough momentum to finish this GIGANTIC book, but I am so glad that I did, and so glad for all the people who told me it was worth it. Let me pass the favor along to you: it is worth all 800 pages.

The book follows the main character from middle school all the way to his 30s, and I ran into the same problem I experience with a lot of biographies--I just find the later (teenager/adult) years more interesting than the beginnings. If you are like me, here is ...more

This was not the easiest book to read. For much of its 771 pages there is a palpable sense of dread. Theodore Decker has every manner of tragedy thrown at him. He plays around with drugs. He gets engaged to a girl who cheats on him. And above all he has stolen a world-famous painting and doesn't know how to give it back. At times I wondered if this was a retelling of the story of Jonah. Then I thought it might be Harry Potter without the magic. In the end, it was worth the journey and every one ...more

This is one of those books whose characters I will always remember and wonder what they are doing now. Wonderfully and very descriptive written, I will probably get a different view if read again. I know I fast read through some of the long descriptive passages.
